Where is your focus?

Matthew 14:30 (ESV)
30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”

Are you focusing on the important things of this world or of God's kingdom? What is your daily priority of your life? What are you focused on?

When the apostles were on the boat crossing the Sea of Galilee, the waves of the sea became rough. Jesus came from dry land, and walked toward on the rough waves toward the apostles in their boat:

26But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.

27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” (Matthew 14:26–27 (ESV)). Then in verse 28:

28And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Why did Peter fear the wind and the waves? Why did Peter start sinking into the sea?

Peter lost his focus! Peter allowed the natural, earthly things to distract his focus on the Lord Jesus. Fear overtook his heart and mindset. Peter started to allow the natural mindset to take over and took his eyes of Jesus. He lost his focus on the power of Christ to keep him walking on the waves of water.

Christ was testing Peter's faith and even asked him the question "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

Peter was not abandoned when he was sinking in the deep waters, Christ was there to save him. Jesus reached out His hand to rescue Peter, taking hold of him so he would not drowned.

God in the flesh, Jesus, and Peter entered the boat and the wind calmed down and the waves stopped.

Then the disciples realized the power of God and declared tht Jesus is truly the Son of God.

When we as fallible humans, go through desperate moments, or season, having fear, doubt, and failure. God is there for us to rescue us from the trials, the hurts, and so often the Lord tests our faith, our focus. Are we focused on Jesus? He alone can lift us out of sinking times when there is fear when we take our eyes, our focus off of Him!

Today, re-focus on the eternal things, on the Lord Jesus to get us through this life and all the times we lose our focus!
